KAWARTHA LAKES-A 20 year old man has lost his life after allegedly going through the ice on Bass Lake while being pulled on a toboggan behind a snowmobile.
Members of the Peterborough County OPP and emergency crews were called to a report of a missing male Saturday night at approximately 5:15pm.
The male was last seen allegedly being towed behind a snowmobile while on a toboggan on Bass Lake when he fell through the ice.
The Trent Lakes Fire Department and OPP Aviation Services attended but were unable to locate the male.
The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) were brought in this morning to continue the search. Officers on snowmobiles took crews to the site and brought the body back to shore.
At approximately 11:45am this morning, the deceased male was located by the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU). The victim has been identified as 20 year old Tyler Christine-Bourgeois of Azilda, Ontario.
The deceased will be transported to The Provincial Forensic Pathology Unit at the Forensic Services and Coroners Complex in Toronto for a post mortem examination.
This incident remains under investigation.
The OPP is reminding those using snowmobiles and ATV’s to avoid driving on lakes and rivers. If it can’t be avoided, check ice conditions beforehand, wear a floater suit and carry ice picks and make sure they are accessible. No ice is safe ice.
