OPP searching Bass Lake for man who went through the ice on a toboggan being towed by snowmobile

KAWARTHA LAKES-The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit is searching Bass Lake for a man who went through the ice on Bass Lake, near Bobcaygeon, last night at approximately 5:15pm.

Police say the male was last seen being towed behind a snowmobile while on a toboggan on Bass Lake when he fell through the ice.

The Trent Lakes Fire Department, OPP Aviation Services and other emergency services were called to the scene but were unable to locate the male.

The Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) is attending the scene this morning to assist with the search.

This incident remains under investigation.

The Peterborough County OPP is advising those using snowmobiles and ATV’s to avoid driving on lakes and rivers. If it can’t be avoided, check ice conditions beforehand, wear a floater suit and carry ice picks and make sure they are accessible. No ice is safe ice.
