KAWARTHA LAKES- Four sixteen-year-old boys are facing charges under the Cannabis Act.
Police say a concerned citizen contacted officers on Thursday January 9, 2020 after allegedly seeing four young men in a vehicle, smoking cannabis. The vehicle was reported to have exited a restaurant parking lot, but was found a short time later by a Kawartha Lakes Police Service officer.
Through her investigation, the officer determined that all four occupants of the vehicle were in possession of cannabis according to police. The sixteen-year-old driver of the vehicle was charged with having care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available. The three sixteen-year-old occupants were each charged with person under years having possession of cannabis.
Police say this is the second time in the last two weeks that the Kawartha Lakes Police Service has charged a sixteen-year-old driver with having cannabis readily available in their vehicle. “Operating a vehicle while being impaired by cannabis or other drugs is just as hazardous as being impaired by alcohol. Please consider speaking with any young drivers in your home about the dangers of being under the influence of cannabis while driving.” says Sgt Dave Murtha.
