Police officers bitten and kicked during arrest in Lindsay

KAWARTHA LAKES-Two Kawartha Lakes Police officers were allegedly assaulted during arrest of a man wanted for committing a sexual assault in Lindsay this morning.

Police say at 7:20am, two members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service attended a Lindsay area home to arrest a man who was wanted for allegedly assaulting and sexually assaulting his female acquaintance.

As the officers informed the man that he was going to be arrested, he attempted to flee according to police. Police say a struggle ensued, during which the man kicked one officer and bit the second. Despite his attempts to escape, the man was taken into custody.

The man has been charged one count of sexual assault, one count of failing to comply with the conditions of his recognizance, three counts of assault and two counts of assaulting a peace officer. The man was held in custody to attend a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 27, 2019. The accused man’s name is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim of the sexual assault. The two officers who were assaulted during the man’s arrest received minor injuries.
