KAWARTHA LAKES-Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for New Years Eve. A messy mix of winter weather could be in store to ring in the new year.
Precipitation associated with an approaching low pressure system is expected to move into Central and Eastern Ontario including parts of the City of Kawartha Lakes on Monday evening. At this point, it appears that a snowfall accumulation of 5 to 10 cm is likely along with a threat of freezing rain. The freezing rain risk is highest over Eastern Ontario.
There is also a possibility that some areas will climb above the freezing mark for a period of time Monday night resulting in precipitation changing to rain.
Difficult travel conditions are likely from Monday evening into Tuesday morning. Drive with caution.
