Strange man tries to get young girl into his car in Bobcaygeon

Some scary moments for a Bobcaygeon mom and her daughter this morning just before 9 am.

Allison Mahoney says her 12-year-old daughter was waiting for the bus at the intersection of Mill Street and Squires Row when a grey vehicle stopped. The older male driver asked the young girl if she “wanted a ride” Thankfully the girl said no and called her mom who had seen the interaction and was approaching the vehicle. The man drove away after the girl called her mother.

Mahoney notified police and the school. A letter was sent home to parents, warning of the incident.

The driver had opened the passenger side door of the vehicle, from inside, for the student to get in. He left with the door still open. The driver is described as an older male, between 50-60 years of age with grey hair. Mahoney says he was driving a light grey sedan with a blanket in front passenger seat, possibly something hanging from the rear mirror and wearing a darker shirt.

Police are looking to speak with the driver of the vehicle or with any witnesses that were in the area this morning. If you have information related to this investigation contact PC Perrin at the CKL detachment at (705) 324-6741.

OPP are reminding all members of the public to be aware of their personal safety and that of children at all times. The young girl was shaken up but was not physically injured.
