Police Issue Public Service Announcement Regarding Fraudulent “Lindsay Police Auction”

KAWARTHA LAKES-Kawartha Lakes Police Service is warning the public about a fraudulent “Lindsay Police Auction” online scam.

KLPS says it does not participate in any online auctions and has no affiliation with any website, business, or social media platform advertising police auctions under the name “Lindsay Police Auction.”

Any property disposed of by the Kawartha Lakes Police Service is auctioned through Corneil Auctioneering Services.

Members of the public are advised to exercise caution when encountering advertisements or websites claiming to sell seized, recovered, or surplus police property on behalf of KLPS. These claims are false and may be an attempt to obtain personal information or obtain money through fraudulent means.

• Be cautious of deals that appear too good to be true.
• Never provide personal or financial information to unverified websites.
• Research the company or website independently before submitting payment.
• Report suspicious advertisements or websites to the platform hosting the content.

If you believe you have been a victim of this scam, report the incident to your local police service and contact your financial institution immediately if you have provided payment information or financial details.
