Three People Charged With Impaired Driving In The First Few Days Of October In Peterborough County

PETERBOROUGH COUNTY-Three people have been charged with impaired driving in the first few days of October in the Peterborough area.

On Thursday October 1, 2026, at approximately 12:30am, a Peterborough County OPP officer was on patrol on Highway 7 in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township when they allegedly observed a westbound vehicle appearing to be having difficulty maintaining their lane. The officer conducted a traffic stop and upon speaking with the driver, determined them to be impaired. The driver was transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

A 46-year-old from Campbellford was arrested and charged with;

• Operation while impaired

• Operation while impaired – combined blood alcohol and blood drug concentration

• Owner operate a motor vehicle without insurance

• Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner

• Class G1 licence holder- unaccompanied by qualified driver

• Class G1 licence holder – drive at unlawful hour

• Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

The accused was held for bail and had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

A passenger in the vehicle was found to have several outstanding warrants with Northumberland OPP detachment. They were arrested and transported to the Northumberland detachment.

On Thursday October 1, 2026, at approximately 5:30pm, the Peterborough County OPP received a call regarding a single vehicle collision on Mill Street in Norwood. The caller advised that there was a vehicle in the ditch which appeared to have collided with several trees and now had smoke coming from it.

Officers arrived on scene finding the Asphodel-Norwood Fire Department already there.  A demand was made for them to provide a sample of their breath into an Approved Screening Device (ASD) with the results of the test leading to the driver being arrested. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The accused provided further samples of their breath with test results being more than double the legal limit according to police.

A 19-year-old woman from Norwood, ON., was arrested and charged with;

• Operation while impaired

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero

• Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor

• Careless driving

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days and is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on November 10, 2026.

On Sunday October 4, 2026, at approximately 6:40pm, a Peterborough County OPP officer in Selwyn Township reportedly witnessed a vehicle go through an intersection failing to stop at the stop sign. After speaking with the driver the officer believed the driver to be under the influence of alcohol and made a demand to provide a breath sample into an Approved Screening Device (ASD). The results of the test led to the arrest of the driver. The driver was transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.

A 24-year-old man from Selwyn Township was arrested and charged with;

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Disobey stop sign – fail to stop

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on November 10, 2026.

The Peterborough County OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or drugs. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
