KAWARTHA LAKES-Kawartha Conservation is asking the community to pick up a spade and join the Community Planting Day at Broad Street Park on Sunday, September 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Officials say it is part of a larger initiative to restore and naturalize existing stormwater ponds across the City of Kawartha Lakes. Broad Street Park has been selected as one of six sites where restoration efforts will take place.
Broad Street Park and its stormwater pond are an important part of the Lindsay community according to Kawartha Conservation. Located within the town and enjoyed by local residents, the site provides an excellent opportunity to bring people together to learn about the role that naturalized spaces can play in supporting a healthy environment.
During the planting day, volunteers will work alongside Kawartha Conservation staff to plant 60 native trees, shrubs, and other plants around the stormwater pond. Native vegetation can provide valuable habitat and food sources for pollinators and wildlife while helping to strengthen and restore the natural functions of the site.
Whether you have a green thumb or have never planted a tree before, everyone is welcome!

Please come prepared to work outdoors, rain or shine. Volunteers are encouraged to bring:
- Gardening gloves/shovel
- Weather appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear
- A hat and sunscreen
- Bug spray
- A reusable water bottle
- A willingness to get your hands dirty!
Refreshments will be provided.
