HALIBURTON HIGHLANDS-The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate following a collision in Haliburton County.
On Sunday, September 20, 2026, shortly before 5:30 p.m., members of the Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting traffic enforcement on Gelert Road when they observed a motorcycle travelling at a high rate of speed. Police say ashort time later, the motorcycle was involved in a single-vehicle collision.
The motorcycle driver and passenger were taken to a local hospital. The driver was airlifted by Ornge to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious injuries.
The OPP notified the SIU, which invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide further information.
