KAWARTHA LAKES-A Kawartha Lakes Police Service (KLPS) officer who is facing criminal charges missed his first court appearance on August 13th.
51-year-old Mark Donaldson, a Sergeant with KLPS was charged with assault and uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm following an altercation that occurred following a motor vehicle collision in Bobcaygeon on Canada Day. He was off-duty at the time.
On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, shortly before 12:00 p.m. officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of East Street South and Mill Street in Bobcaygeon. No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
Police say during the investigation, officers received information that, prior to police arrival, an individual not involved in the collision was involved in an altercation with one of the drivers at the scene and Donaldson was charged by the OPP.
“The member’s employment status has been reviewed, and appropriate administrative action has been taken. As this matter is currently before the courts, no further comment will be provided.” said police in a statement to the media at the time.Â
A bench warrant with discretion was issued for Donaldson on August 13 after he failed to appear for a hearing at the Lindsay courthouse.
A bench warrant with discretion is a court order issued when you miss a court date. It is issued as a courtesy if you miss a court date with a reason provided. If you show up on the next date, the warrant is canceled.
Donaldson is scheduled to appear in court again on September 10 at 9am.
