Two Youth Riding ATV’s On Highway 7A At 4am Facing Impaired Charges

KAWARTHA LAKES-On n Saturday August 01, 2026 at approximately 04:27 am City of Kawartha Lakes OPP officers responded to reports of youth riding an ATV on Highway 7A in Bethany. Through investigation two drivers were arrested and charged with impaired driving related offences under the Criminal Code of Canada and Highway Traffic Act offences.

Both ATV drivers were 17 years old, who cannot be named due to the provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), of Millbrook and Fraserville were charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

Additional charges under the Highway Traffic Act included:

  • Young Driver BAC Above Zero
  • Unlawfully Drive Off Road Vehicle on Highway
  • Novice Driver BAC Above Zero

The accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay at a later date. The drivers licence was suspended for 90 days and the motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Officers were busy over the Civic Long Weekend, five alleged impaired drivers charged in the region.
