KAWARTHA LAKES-One of four young people charged in an armed bank robbery in Little Britain has plead guilty.
City of Kawartha Lakes OPP arrested and charged four individuals in relation to the incident on June 16, 2025. Police say at approximately 4:12 pm officers responded to reports of an
armed robbery in progress at a financial institution in Little Britain. Witnesses reported
seeing masked individuals in the financial institution with handguns and bank tellers with
their hands in the air. City of Kawartha Lakes OPP responded with all available
members. Durham Regional Police Service and Kawartha Lakes Police Service were
notified and assisted.
One individual was arrested in the parking lot in a vehicle and three individuals, who fled the financial institution, were taken into custody without incident a short distance away according to police.
Due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act identifications were withheld.
One 14 year old, one 16 year old and two 17 year olds were arrested and charged with:

ï‚· Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
ï‚· Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
ï‚· Disguise with Intent
ï‚· Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
One of the youth involved was in a Lindsay courtroom recently to be sentenced after pleading guilty to two bank robberies. All other charges were dropped. $20,000 stolen in the Little Britain bank robbery was recovered due to the quick response by local police according to the crown. $10,000 stolen from a second bank robbery in Walkerton has not been recovered.
In sentencing the youth , Justice Konyer said in part “In a cowardly fashion you covered your faces with masks and armed yourselves with what members of the public would assume were real guns. Staff and customers were detained, ordered to the floor and terrorized. Your conduct as part of that group, unsurprisingly, has had a massive impact on the people you terrorized that day”
The youth, who cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was sentenced to six months of deferred custody with house arrest after having spent time in jail. The youth must remain in the home or on the property at all times except for school, work and other necessary appointments. The youth is not to have any contact with the co-accused, is not to be within 100 meters of either bank, has a weapons and alcohol prohibition order and will serve 18 month probation once the deferred sentence is complete. The youth will also be required to submit DNA.
Many of the other details in the case cannot be released due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Three others will appear in court at a later date.
