KAWARTHA LAKES-A 17-year-old male has died after a canoe capsized on Cross Lake.
On Monday, July 20, 2026, at approximately 1:30 p.m., members of the Bancroft OPP responded to a marine distress call involving a capsized canoe.
Whitney Paramedic Services, Renfrew County Paramedic Services, including the SIERRA Team, OPP Aviation Services, local citizens and officers all assisted in the search for the individual. With the assistance from members of the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU), the individual was located and pronounced deceased.
The deceased has been identified as a 17-year-old from Mariposa Township.
Police say a postmortem will be conducted.
