KAWARTHA LAKES-“This is a picture of what we now call Port 32, east of Highway 36. The sawmill is visible at the right in the is picture, to its left if the sawdust burner with a ramp leading up to it. Lenny Cross told me that one time one of the horses that they used down there died, and they just pulled it up the slope like and just dumped it in the sawdust burner and it was cremated. Note the piles of sawn lumber to the left in the picture. These continued right up to where Edgewater condominium is.” Mossom Boyd & Company also had barracks for their workers to live in. “The four houses there were for the workers. Vincent Junkin lived there in the last house. I remember Mrs. Junkin used to bake bread there and bring it downtown on the weekend to sell on the main street. But that whole place there was full. Right in the far end there in the middle somewhere there is a sawdust burner. But that’s what it used to look like east of 36 highway, where Port 32 is now.”
