KAWARTHA LAKES-The Ontario government says it is investing $8.9 million through the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF) to help support critical services such as road maintenance and public transit in the City of Kawartha Lakes.
“The City of Kawartha Lakes will greatly benefit from this $8.9 million Ontario Municipal Partnership Funding investment,” said Laurie Scott, MPP for Haliburton−Kawartha Lakes−Brock. “This funding will support critical services and infrastructure throughout the communities in the City of Kawartha Lakes, and it is a testament of our government’s commitment to protecting rural Ontario communities.”
OMPF funding for Kawartha Lakes has increased this year by almost $550,000.
“The commitment of the Province through the OMPF will contribute to the success of our longterm financial plan and will help support our infrastructure needs. We are grateful to the Province for their continuing support and being a partner with us as our municipality continues to grow. The OMPF is a significant funding stream, and we very much appreciate their efforts in providing this crucial grant.” – Doug Elmslie, Mayor of Kawartha Lakes.
Across central Ontario, the province is investing more than $87 million in OMPF funding to help support critical services in 77 communities.
“Today’s announcement demonstrates our government’s commitment to protecting rural municipalities,” said Lisa Thompson, Minister of Rural Affairs. “Through the OMPF, we’re helping to ensure Kawartha Lakes has the resources it needs to address local priorities, support economic growth and improve quality of life for residents.”
The OMPF is the province’s largest funding program for small, rural and northern municipalities, including areas with limited property assessment.
