“Large Fight” At Park In Selwyn Results In Charges For Youth

PETERBOROUGH-Reports of a large fight at a park in Selwyn Township led to a youth being charged.

On Sunday July 12, 2026, at approximately 9:00pm, officers from the Peterborough County OPP received a call reporting a large fight was in progress at Chemong Park in Selwyn Township. The caller advised that there were several people fighting and yelling.

Officers arrived to find 15-20 people in the parking area yelling and screaming at each other. The officer spoke with an individual who identified themselves as a victim and showed the officer minor injuries that they had received as a result of the altercation. Another person advised police that they had been sprayed with something and now were having difficulty seeing. Police say bystanders offered the victim water to aid in clearing their eyes.

According to witnesses the fight began because of an individual throwing an object at a vehicle causing damage to it.

A 15-year-old youth was identified as the aggressor and as such was arrested according to police. The accused was charged with three offences under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA);

• Assault

• Mischief – destroys or damages property

• Administer noxious thing

Due to the age of the accused, their name will not be released as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
