Intimate Partner Violence Call Results In Numerous Charges

PETERBOROUGH-Peterborough County OPP officers have arrested an individual for assault after investigating an intimate partner violence (IPV) call.

On Sunday May 17, 2026, the Peterborough County OPP received a call regarding an alleged assault that had taken place at a residence in Peterborough County. The complainant advised that they had been in an argument the previous day with someone they were in a relationship with. The two went their separate ways but later that night, the victim found that the accused had entered the residence without their permission according to police. The argument allegedly escalated turning physical and continued for several hours. The victim said that during the course of the assault they had also been choked. officers contacted EMS to attend to ensure there were no permanent injuries.

Officers later located the accused, who was arrested and taken to the Peterborough County OPP detachment.

A 34-year-old male from Peterborough County was arrested and charged with;

• Break, enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence

• Assault cause bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle

• Assault – spousal (three counts)

• Forcible confinement

• Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm

• Criminal harassment – repeatedly communicate

• Breach of peace bond

The accused was held for Bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.
