Harry Van Oudenaren’s  Memories Of King Street For Bobcaygeon’s 150th Anniversary

KAWARTHA LAKES-This is a view of King Street looking west towards the fairgrounds, with the famous King Street Elm tree. “One time I showed this picture” while giving a presentation, “and I said look at the pot holes. Gary Taylor said ‘Yeah, those pot holes are still there. But they are supposed to get them fixed now.’ That’s the way roads used to be, they were just dirt roads. The main street used to be a dirt road too, and in the fall when it got muddy, Mr. Boyd would come in with wagon loads full of sawdust and they put it on there.” If the season was wet, “by the time the horses all tramped through it you ended up with about a foot of mud!”
