KAWARTHA LAKES-The 15th Musicathon is returning to Fenelon Falls.
The event will start at 11am and atendees will be welcomed with a muffin and coffee for only $2.00. Once you have that wake up coffee and muffin in hand, head right on in to the main stage. The event is organized by the Fenelon Falls Grannies for Grannies.
The music will start with a rousing Oh Canada by a talented little girl singing in English, French, Cree and signing. The line up this year goes back to the origins, with many younger performers including three with a You Tube following and a rock band with 17 year olds.
Of course they still have those favourites that you remember, Peter Witt at the keyboard and Trevor Hutchinson with his gravelly Leonard Cohen voice. The African drumming circle with Bazza is back and the day will be ending with the Providence Road country band, a local favourite. The final song is a patriotic “This Land Is Your Land”.
There will be interactive line dancing and Joni Mitchell style guitar playing with something for every age group and every taste. As mentioned, several groups will be inviting audience participation. Between performances, there will be more audience participation, fun “trivia” questions with audience prizes.
Saturday April 11. 11 am to 5:00 pm. St. James Anglican Church, 7 Bond St. E., Fenelon Falls. Admission is by donation to the Stephen Lewis Foundation, Grandmothers Campaign.
Every donation of $20 or more will receive a tax receipt. What does a donation buy? Besides entry into an amazing day of music? Every donation helps in 17 SubSaharan African countries in response to the AIDS pandemic that swept Africa in the 1980s.
Donations will help with treatment and support for breast feeding young mothers living with HIV, with early infant diagnosis for an HIV exposed infant, with treatment adherence support such as transportation to a clinic for medication refills or viral load testing for a child or adolescent living with HIV, with school fee payment, with support for a case worker who does home visits, with helping grandmothers to grow climate resilient crops, with helping a young woman or girl to become economically empowered.
“Join us for a double whammy; a great day of music; a great day of doing good. Even in these difficult times – especially in difficult times- we cannot lose our way. Human connection, compassion and solidarity must continue to guide us.” said the Fenelon Falls Grannies for Grannies.
