Abandoned Vehicle Leads To Impaired Driving Charges In Fenelon Township

KAWARTHA LAKES-The City of Kawartha Lakes OPP continues to take impaired drivers off our roadways through ongoing enforcement and community‑reported concerns.

Police say impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of death and serious injury on OPP‑patrolled highways. Officers across the municipality remain committed to detecting and removing drivers impaired by alcohol, drugs, or a combination of both.

On Friday, March 13, 2026, at approximately 8:08 p.m., officers responded to an abandoned vehicle in the ditch on Highway in Fenelon Township. Through investigation officers charged a driver with impaired driving offences.

Thomas Strong, 59-years-old of Dungarry, Nova Scotia, Canada, was charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Operation while impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

–      Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

–      Careless Driving

Strong was given a seven‑day vehicle impoundment, a 90‑day driver’s licence suspension, and a future court date.

The OPP reminds motorists:

• Never drive impaired – plan a safe ride home.

• Call 9‑1‑1 if you suspect an impaired driver.

• Impaired driving includes alcohol, drugs, or a combination of both.
