PETERBOROUGH COUNTY-Members of the Peterborough County OPP led a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) inspection initiative on March 3.
The initiative led by a Peterborough County OPP officer, included other members from the Peterborough County OPP detachment, OPP Highway Safety Division (HSD) and the Whitby OPP detachment.
Officers trained in CMV inspections completed nine Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Level 1 inspections. Within the nine inspections, seven charges were laid as well as two vehicles being placed out of service.
The charges laid included;
• Fail to ensure performance standards are met
• Fail to ensure daily inspection is conducted properly
• Push rod stroke exceeds prescribed limit
• Fail to accurately complete daily inspection report
• Drive commercial motor vehicle with a major defect in it or in drawn vehicle
Police say CMV inspections continue to be a regular part of the OPP mandate and help ensure that road users, both operating commercial and non-commercial vehicles, are kept safe while on the roads. Commercially operated vehicles are an integral part of our society and ensuring they are operated in a safe manner is key.
