KAWARTHA LAKES-The Kawartha Lakes Police Service is warning residents of an increased risk of high-end vehicle thefts in our area.
What’s being targeted?
Thieves are specifically targeting high-end Toyota SUVs and trucks, including newer models equipped with keyless entry and push-button start.
Criminals are using sophisticated methods to gain access to vehicles quickly—often without forcing entry.
Residents are encouraged to take the following steps to reduce the risk of theft:
• Lock your vehicle at all times, even when parked at home
• Store key fobs in a Faraday pouch or signal-blocking box to prevent relay theft
• Park in a garage whenever possible
• Use a steering wheel lock or immobilizer
• Install a tracking device or vehicle recovery system
• Activate manufacturer and aftermarket security features
• Do not leave valuables inside your vehicle
• Report suspicious activity immediately
Officials are encouraging residents to contact police immediately If you observe suspicious vehicles or suspicious people in your neighbourhood looking into vehicles. Doing so will assist investigators to track patterns of criminal behaviour and potentially identify suspects.
Additionally, information can be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers by calling or 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS)
