Paper License Plates Results In Charges For Peterborough Man

PETERBOROUGH-A 45-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges under the Highway Traffic Act after a Traffic Services officers discovered the man had paper license plates on his vehicle according to police.

At approximately 10:15am on Saturday, January 10, 2026, the officer conducted a traffic stop in the Romaine Street area near Park Street after the plates returned to a different vehicle in Mississauga.  Through investigation it was further learned that the plates were paper and secured in a plastic sleeve with packing tape.

As a result, the 45-year-old drivers was issued the following:

  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle (Highway Traffic Act)
  • Use plate no in accordance with Act (Highway Traffic Act)
  • Fail to apply for permit on becoming an owner (Highway Traffic Act)
  • Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway – No insurance (Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act)

The paper license plates were seized, and the driver was given a court date of March 23, 2026.
