OLG Says It Will Not Renew Contract For Kawartha Downs Casino

PETERBOROUGH-It looks like it will be the end of the road for the Casino At Kawartha Downs.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission released a statement on Tuesday announcing the lease will end on March 31, 2025.

“The Optional Slots at Racetracks Program (OSARP) was launched as a temporary measure in 2019 to assist eligible racetracks where co-located slot facilities had previously closed, or where there were plans to relocate the gaming sites — such as Kawartha Downs.

As part of OSARP, lease agreements were reached with racetrack owners for a casino to remain at Kawartha Downs. From the outset, OSARP was scheduled to end on March 31, 2026, with the casino lease not being extended and partners made aware during the process.

We will work closely with our casino service providers and property owners to ensure the decommissioning process for these sites is as smooth as possible.” said the statement.

The Casino generates millions in funds for the municipality and employs a number of people.
