KAWARTHA LAKES-In May 2025, members of the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) entered into a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) investigation into a male believed to be trafficking drugs into the City of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton Highlands areas.
In September 2025 CDSA search warrants were authorized for the accused’s residence. On September 22, 2025, the search warrants were executed and as a result, the following items were seized according to police:
·        79.5 8mg Hydromorphone pills
·        53g suspected cocaine
·        312.3g suspected fentanyl
·        $2710 CAD cash
·        $13 USD cash
·        Two digital scales
·        Two cellphones
·        Dimebags
·        1 40cal S&W bullet with “Hailey” written on it
·        Replica 12g Shotgun
27-year-old Caleb Johnston of Courtice was held for a show cause hearing and charged with:
·        CDSA 5(2) – Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine
·        CDSA 5(2) -Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Fentanyl
·        CDSA 5(2) -Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Hydromorphone
·        CC 354(1)(a) -Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
·        CC 145(4)(a) – Failure to comply with Undertaking
·        CC 117.01(1) – Possess Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
