KAWARTHA LAKES-September 12 is recognized as National Police Woman Day in Canada and the Kawartha Lakes Police Service honoured its very first female officer.
“Today, we proudly recognize the remarkable women of the Kawartha Lakes Police Service—and all women in law enforcement—who serve with strength, integrity, and compassion.
We also honour a trailblazer in our own history: Sgt Janette Drew (Ret.), Badge #26, who became the first female officer to join the then Lindsay Police Service in 1989. Her courage and dedication paved the way for future generations of women in policing, and her legacy continues to inspire us.” said KLPS.
National Police Woman Day is dedicated to celebrating women’s achievements and promoting a more diverse and inclusive policing community.
in 1912 Annie May Jackson was the first female constable with the Edmonton Police Department, and the 1974 swearing-in of Troop 17, the first all-female cadet troop for the RCMP.
