PETERBOROUGH-Peterborough County and City emergency services gathered at Peterborough Fire Station #1 on Sherbrooke Street this morning to observe a moment of silence honouring the lives lost on September 11, 2001.
Crews paused together to remember the victims and pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice of first responders.
“On September 11th, we pause to honour the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who gave their lives in the service of others. As paramedics, we understand deeply the call to run toward danger when others are running away. Today, we stand with our colleagues across North America in remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and we extend our gratitude to our own staff who continue to serve with bravery, compassion, and unwavering commitment to their communities every day.” – Trisha Bromfield, Chief of Paramedics.
On September 11, 2001 terrorists hijacked airplanes and crashed them into the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon in the United States killing 2,977 people including fire fighters and police officers who rushed to the burning buildings to help.
Kawartha Lakes Police Service commemorated the anniversary on social media.
“Today, we pause to honour the lives lost and the heroes who emerged on September 11, 2001.We remember the courage of first responders, the resilience of survivors, and the unity that followed in the face of unimaginable tragedy. Though time passes, the impact of that day remains.
