Boater On Buckhorn Lake Charged With Impaired

PETERBOROUGH-Officers from the Peterborough County OPP have charged a Selwyn man with impaired operation of a boat.

On Monday August 11, 2025, at approximately 3:45pm, Peterborough County OPP received a call regarding a boat being operated by someone who appeared to have open alcohol in their boat. A description of the boat and the operator was provided to police.

A Peterborough County OPP Marine Unit was patrolling Buckhorn Lake and observed the vessel. The officer spoke with the operator of the vessel and after a short period of time determined them to be under the influence of alcohol. Police say during the conversation, it was also determined that the accused was currently serving a Conditional Sentence Order which they were in breach of.

43-year-old Ryan Dockman of Selwyn, was arrested and charged with;

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Breach of Conditional Sentence Order

·      Having care or control of boat underway with open container of liquor

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days.

The accused was held for Bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.

The Peterborough County OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or drugs. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
