Charges Laid After Man Hit With An Axe In Peterborough

PETERBOROUGH-A 36-year-old Peterborough has been charged in connection with an incident early Saturday morning.

At approximately 2:00am on June 28, 2025, officers were called to the area of Simcoe Street and Water Street about a disturbance.  Upon arrival, officers were told there had been a verbal dispute between two men and one of the men struck the other on the arm with an axe.  The 31-year-old victim was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre before being transferred to a Toronto hospital for treatment. Police say an axe was seized from the area.

At approximately 12:30pm on Monday, June 30, 2025, officers with Investigative Services located the suspect in the Water Street and McDonnel Street area and took him into custody.

As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Breach of Release Order

The accused is currently bound by a release order with the following condition: to not possess any weapons and will appear in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on July 1, 2025.
