NORTHUMBERLAND-The Northumberland OPP charged a number of people over the weekend including a driver with a child in the vehicle.
On May 1, 2025, at around 7:45 p.m., Peterborough and Northumberland OPP responded to a family dispute at a residence on Hannah Road in the Township of Hamilton. Police say it was reported that an individual was in possession of an edged weapon and was causing damage to the home.
Police arrived at the location where the person had left the location. One of the individuals involved was treated for minor injuries by Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Members from the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit (K9) were also dispatched to assist with the investigation.
The suspect was located nearby and taken into custody. A 35-year-old male, from the Township of Hamilton, has been charged with:
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Assault cause bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Assault with a weapon
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Mischief under $5,000.
The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg. They shall not be named to protect the identity of the victim.
On May 2, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance involving the occupants of a pick-up truck on Sandercock Road in Roseneath.
Officers say they located an unoccupied vehicle matching the description provided and began an investigation into the incident. Police were able to speak with the occupants at a nearby address and began an intimate partner violence investigation along with an impaired operation investigation. The victim attended a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries according to police.
As a result, a 34-year-old male, from Roseneath, was arrested and charged with:
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Assault causing bodily harm – spousal
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Possess more than one licence.
The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg. They shall not be named to protect the identity of the victim. A further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.
On May 3, 2025, at around 5:15 p.m., OPP received a traffic complaint regarding a pick-up truck on Saskatoon Avenue in the Municipality of Trent Hills. The caller advised the vehicle was unable to maintain its lane and hit the curb.
Police located the vehicle and following speaking to the driver, entered into an impaired operation investigation. The accused was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further tests.
Peter Brown, 61-years-old, from Warkworth, has been charged with:
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
In addition to a future court date, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.
On May 4, 2025, at approximately 12:30 p.m., OPP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision where a passenger vehicle was on its roof in the ditch on Durham Street North in the Township of Cramahe. A small child was also advised to be a passenger in the vehicle. The Township of Cramahe Fire Department and EMS were also dispatched to the location.
Officers arrived on the scene where both occupants were being treated by EMS as a precaution. Police then entered an impaired operation investigation and made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver complied with the demand resulting in a reading of ‘FAIL’ at which point they were arrested according to police. The individual was transported to a local detachment for further tests. Another family member was able to come to the location for the child.
A 31-year-old male, from Cobourg, has been charged with:
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Careless driving
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Fail to ensure child properly secured.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date. A further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.
On May 4, 2025, at around 7:45 p.m., an officer was on patrol on Burnham Street in Cobourg when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed in a 40 Km/hr zone. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver exited the vehicle in an effort to walk to a nearby residence. Police spoke to the individual and upon doing so, detected an odour of alcohol. OPP then made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver complied with the demand resulting in a reading of ‘FAIL’ at which point they were arrested and transported to a local detachment for further tests.
Xavieur STATA, 18-years-old, from Cobourg, has been charged with:
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Drive motor vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Novice driver – Blood alcohol concentration above zero.
