Go Jump In The Lake For A Good Cause!

KAWARTHA LAKES-Residents in the Coboconk area are preparing for a chilly dip once again to support the Coboconk and Area Foodbank.

The sixth annual Jump in the Lake Challenge takes place Saturday May 3 and is dedicated to battling hunger in the community. The theme this year is the Jersey Jump. Participants are encouraged to wear their favourite sports jerseys for the jump. All donations support the Coboconk andArea Food Bank (CAFB). The CAFB serves the communities of Norland, Kirkfield and Coboconk and surrounding areas.

According to CAFB chairperson,Amy Alfredsson, the food bank continues to serve a high number of households with children.

“In 2024, the CAFB had a total of 210 clients (79 children and 131 adults) and numbers continue to increase. There were 1,631 individual visits or 29,358 meals served. The number of households with children has continued to climb over the past year,” said Alfredsson. “We are 100% volunteer operated, so money donated goes mainly to food and supplies. We are very thankful to our community for the much-needed support!”

Since its inception in 2020, over 100 participants and generous donors in the Jump in the Lake Challenge have raised over $175,000 for our local community.

This year’s goal is $20,000. Unlike organized Polar Bear dips that happen in one central location, this exciting event takes place off each participant’s dock or waterfront location of their choice. Join the challenge today as a participant or donor.

“The Jump in the Lake Challenge embodies our strong community spirit. Year after year we are absolutely thrilled with how such a small action by a number of people has the ability to transform and inspire a small community,” said organizer Dean Michel. “ It’s a lot of fun for a fantastic cause.”
