Based on information received from Environment and Climate Change Canada, Trent Severn Waterway and the Ministry of Natural Resources – Surface Water Monitoring Centre, Kawartha Conservation is extending its Flood Warning on Thursday April 17, 2025, until 12pm on Tuesday April 22, 2025.
Kawartha Conservation advises that water levels across the Kawartha Lakes continue to remain elevated due to a significant influx of water from recent precipitation and heavy inflows from northern tributaries. These elevated lake levels increase the risk of shoreline flooding, creating potential safety hazards for residents in affected areas. Large rivers such as the Burnt River and Gull River remain above seasonal average and continue to contribute large amounts of water into the Kawartha Lakes, while smaller, localized streams have receded.
Forecasts indicate precipitation is arriving in our watershed in the amount of 10 to 15mm on Friday, with temperatures rising over the weekend. Ongoing snowmelt in northern areas, combined with additional rainfall, will further increase inflows into the Kawartha Lakes.
While widespread flooding is not expected, there is a significant flooding risk to low-lying shorelines due to elevated water levels. Kawartha Conservation strongly advises residents to stay away from all watercourses during this time. Children should be always supervised while outside.
Kawartha Conservation says it continues to closely monitor the weather and watershed conditions while assessing the potential flood risk and remains in close communication with our partner agencies, including the Trent-Severn Waterway, Ministry of Natural Resources – Surface Water Monitoring Centre, and neighboring Conservation Authorities.

This Flood Warning will be in effect until 12pm on Tuesday April 22, 2025 and will be updated or removed as required.
