Kawartha Lakes Students Dealing With Second Police Investigation In 24 Hours

KAWARTHA LAKES-There was a hold and secure placed on Lindsay Collegiate and Vocational Institute (LCVI) briefly by the City Of Kawartha Lakes Police Service after they learned about a suspected threat. Due to the proximity of Central Senior School, they also went into a hold and secure.

In a hold and secure exterior doors are locked and classroom routines and lessons continue. Students are not permitted outside and cannot be signed out while a hold and secure is in place. Parents/guardians are not able to pick up their students during a hold and secure.
The hold and secure was lifted quickly.
On Monday, Fenelon Falls Secondary School was placed in a lockdown by the local OPP just after 1pm.

A lockdown is a safety measure initiated when there is a threatening incident or threat of school violence in relation to the school. During a lockdown, all classrooms will be locked so that staff and students are safe in their location, and no one is allowed to enter or leave the school.

Students and staff are trained for lockdowns. Much the same way that schools practice fire drills, lockdown drills are also practiced in an age appropriate manner. During a lockdown, students are discouraged from using electronic devices, such as cellular phones, as their use may impede the ability of the police and school staff to respond to the situation at hand. It may also result in the dissemination of inaccurate information.

The Lockdown was lifted about an hour later and classes resumed as usual.

No charges have been laid in either incident.
