Homeowners can receive rebates based on heating source, helping them reduce energy use, manage renovation costs and improve home comfort.
ONTARIO-It’s that time of year when many people start thinking about home improvement and upgrade projects, like new windows and doors, or adding insulation. Maybe it’s finally time for a heat pump or solar panels? This new program could help.
Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy, with support from the Ontario government, have partnered to deliver the new Home Renovation Savings program, a rebate program now available across Ontario. The program offers a range of energy conservation offers that help Ontarians improve home energy efficiency and comfort. It’s a key part of the of the Ontario government’s $10.9 billion investment in energy efficiency.
“By teaming up to co-deliver this program, we’re able to help reduce your energy use while making it easier to upgrade your home.” said Tam Wagner, Director, Demand Side Management, Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).
“Whether you heat your home with natural gas supplied by Enbridge Gas or with electricity, propane, wood or oil, homeowners will now have more choice, with flexible options for greater savings.” added Corrie Morton, Supervisor Residential Energy Conservation Programs, Enbridge Gas Inc.
How It Works:
- Flexible Options: Choose single upgrades or bundle improvements for even greater savings.
- Streamlined Process: Rebates for smart thermostats, heat pumps, and rooftop solar panels and battery storage don’t require a home energy assessment. Rebates for insulation, heat pump water heaters, windows and doors and air sealing require a pre- and post- home energy assessment to qualify for the program. An initial home energy assessment must be done before any work is started, and two upgrades are required to receive rebates.
- Eligibility: Open to Enbridge Gas customers who heat their homes with natural gas and homeowners who are connected to the Ontario electricity grid and heat their home electrically or with propane, wood or oil.
- Homeowners must use a program-approved contractor for heat pump installation, and a program-approved service organization for assessments – both will also manage the application and paperwork. Under the assessment stream, homeowners have the flexibility to select their preferred contractor for energy-saving upgrades. Homeowners can also choose to install smart thermostats themselves, if desired.
Why Now?
Energy-efficient upgrades not only increase your home’s comfort and value but also help reduce energy use and fight climate change.
- 94% of Canadian homeowners are planning to stay in their current homes over the next year, with nearly a quarter (25%) of those polled planning to undertake renovations in the next year.
- Energy-efficient home renovations are highly desired, with 62% of homeowners polled indicating they are likely to invest in such upgrades.
- 53% of those polled said they want to complete home renovations to improve the functionality of their home.
Who Qualifies:
- The Home Renovation Savings program is open to eligible Ontario homeowners who heat their home with electricity and are connected to the electricity grid, as well as homeowners who are Enbridge Gas customers that primarily heat their home with natural gas. Homeowners who heat with propane, oil or wood also now qualify.
- Participants must own the home where the equipment will be installed and be the person responsible for paying for the purchase and installation of the equipment. Where an owner has tenants, the owner must apply.
