Impaired Driving Charges Laid After Man Reportedly Found Asleep In His Vehicle With Engine Running

KAWARTHA LAKES-The OPP responded to a call for service in Woodville n January 19, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m.. Police say upon arrival, the officers located the suspect, asleep in his vehicle with the engine running and the window partially down.

After waking the individual and engaging in a brief conversation, officers initiated an investigation into impaired driving.

As a result of the investigation, 37-year-old, James Stapley, the suspect, was arrested and subsequently charged with

–      Operation while impaired

–      Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration

–      Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The suspect was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay. In accordance with impaired driving laws, their driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

“The OPP encourages all motorists to plan ahead: designate a driver, use a taxi, take public transit, or stay overnight. Even small amounts of alcohol or drugs can impair your ability to make sound judgments while driving,” said police.
