Arson Charges Laid After Business Fire In Bancroft

BANCROFT-Bancroft Detachment OPP officers have arrested and charged a resident following an early morning business fire on Thursday.

On September 20, 2024, just after 2:00 a.m., officers responded to a report of a fire at a business on Hastings Street North. While no injuries were reported, the business sustained damage as a result of the fire.

Following an investigation, Anthony Olmstead, 43, of Bancroft, was arrested at the scene and faces multiple charges under the Criminal Code, including:

  • Arson – Disregard for Human Life
  • Failure to Comply with Undertaking
  • Trespassing at Night

Olmstead has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on September 23, 2024, to address the charges.
