KAWARTHA LAKES-Lindsay Transit is extending its hours in response to a satisfaction survey.
The City launched a survey in May to ask Lindsay Transit riders if they were satisfied with the hours that buses currently run on weekdays and weekends.
Lindsay Transit operates four conventional bus routes Monday to Saturday from 7am to 7pm and Sundays from 9am to 4pm. The purpose of the survey was to gauge interest in extending our transit service hours.
The survey results are in and officials say over 75 percent of survey respondents would welcome a change to Lindsay Transit’s current service hours. Almost 72 percent of respondents asked for the hours to be extended until at least 10pm on weekdays.
“We’re excited to be able to extend the hours of service for our Lindsay Transit riders,” said Rodney Porter, Manager Fleet and Transit Services, Kawartha Lakes. “The survey showed us that there was a community need to extend our hours later into the night on weekdays and we’re happy to be able to do that for our riders.”
As of Sunday September 29, 2024 our Monday to Saturday transit hours will be extended from 7pm to 10pm for both Lindsay Transit and LIMO Specialized Transit services.
The survey results also showed interest in starting the bus routes earlier than 7am during the week. At this time, Lindsay Transit was only able to add a limited amount of hours to the schedule. Since there was more interest in extending the hours later into the night than adding hours earlier in the morning, it was determined that the extended hours at night would be more beneficial to riders.
Lindsay Transit will be monitoring ridership for the remainder of the year. If the data show low ridership during the 9pm to 10pm window, hours of service will be looked at again in the new year.
