KAWARTHA LAKES-Are you looking for a wonderful way to spend the last weekend of summer before the kids go back to school? Then you can’t miss Handley Lumber KidsFest. Where else can you go to launch a rocket, Be a Rockstar!, build a boat, ride a pony, get soaked in a splash pad, design a car, wear a snake, pet a giant bunny, construct a bridge, swim at a sandy beach, launch a catapult, take aim in a shooting gallery, leap in a bouncy castle, get a caricature, toast a marshmallow at a community campfire, learn art, see a caterpillar become a butterfly, build a cardboard box castle, and Be a Superhero!
Handley Lumber KidsFest is inspired by the Kawarthas’ unique history of children’s manufacturing. For a generation, Allen Wood Products, Fenelon Falls produced many of the wooden toys that children across Canada grew up playing with. Lindsay’s Canada Crayon Company, later Crayola, became part of the world’s largest manufacturer of craft supplies. For generations families have enjoyed Kawartha Dairy ice cream by the Trent Severn Waterway. Maryboro Lodge Museum brings this history to life through countless interactive activities. The museum’s dedicated volunteers have created reproductions of many interesting historic games. Learning can be a blast!
This year’s event features Zoo to You, Mystic Drumz, Browning Reptiles, Marky Monday, Turtle Guardians, Washboard Hank, Sciensational Sssnakes, Dig the Moon, North Country Express and Inspired2Dance. Each day features different activities, and it’s not just for kids. Handley Lumber KidsFest can be a lot of fun for anyone who enjoys hands-on learning. There will be mini hockey, basketball and soccer games.
Handley Lumber KidsFest features a great variety of interactive science & engineering activities too. Visitors can learn about buoyancy, kinematics, light, gravity, magnetism, leverage, mechanical advantage. This year the event also features three new documentaries relating to childhood in the Kawarthas, depicting Garnet Graham, Allen Wood Products and One Room School experiences.
If your family wants to make the most of Labour Day Weekend, Garnet Graham Park is the place to be. Handley Lumber KidsFest is one of a kind, an awesome end of summer party!
