NORTHUMBERLAND-The Northumberland OPP has arrested an individual involved in a sexual assault investigation with assistance from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
On July 23, 2024, police received a report of a sexual assault at an address on County Road 2 in the Municipality of Brighton. The victim and the accused were known to each other according to police.
The Northumberland OPP Crime Unit assisted in the investigation, leading to a warrant being sought for the accused.
On August 11, 2024, officers were notified by the CBSA that the accused had arrived at an international airport and was taken into custody. The OPP transported the accused back to Northumberland.
As a result, a 31-year-old male from Oshawa has been charged with:
·        Sexual assault
The accused shall not be named to protect the identity of the victim and is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.
