15 Local Youth Graduate From Police Boot Camp

KAWARTHA LAKES-15 local youth got a taste of what it’s like being a police officer.

The youth graduated from a 6-week Police Boot Camp run in partnership with the Kawartha Lakes Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police and the BGC. City of Kawartha Lakes

The program provides the students information about the policing occupation, it promotes physical fitness and developing a teamwork mentality.  There are demonstrations by specialty units such as K9, Forensic Identification, Traffic enforcement, Use of Force and Emergency Response Team.   There are police related scenarios that the students work through as a team.  There was also a job fair with regards to other jobs available in the law enforcement such as By Law, Tobacco enforcement, Corrections, Probation / Parole, Auxiliary and Court Security.

The kids apply for the program through the BGC Kawarthas with approximately 30 applicants this year.

Officials say the program has grown in the last couple of years and provides the youth with a great opportunity to get a feel for policing.

Congratulations to all!
