KAWARTHA LAKES-Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) announced the appointment of Nikki Train as a superintendent of learning, with responsibilities for the Special Education Services portfolio, among other items. Train is replacing the vacancy to be left by superintendent of learning, Paul Goldring, as he retires in June.
“Train comes to TLDSB with an incredible range of experiences both in leading schools and working with students with special education needs. As a leader, she has had a great impact on consultants, support staff, principals, and school communities with her knowledge and experience in special education,” comments Wes Hahn, director of education.
Train is currently the district principal of Special Education Services at the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN), and previously a school administrator since 2012. In this time, she was an administrator for two priority elementary schools, where the focus was on improving student achievement in literacy and mathematics. Train has been a student achievement leader for Kindergarten to Grade 12 Special Education Services at DSBN for the last eight years.
When asked about herself, Train said, “I look forward to stepping into this role and working with all of the wonderful people in TLDSB. On a personal note, I enjoy travelling and watching my children participate in sports and activities, as well as being outdoors kayaking or hiking.”
Train will begin her new position on September 1, and will be moving closer to family in Muskoka where her husband is originally from.
