PETERBOROUGH-One person has been charged after allegedly hitting a person known to them with the blunt end of an axe.
On April 28, 2024, shortly after 11:00am, 911 was contacted by a caller advising that their partner had been attacked by a family member who has since left the scene. Members of the Peterborough County OPP were sent to the call, arriving at the location a short time later. Officers spoke with the victim who stated that after a conversation with one family member, a second family member, the accused, attended their residence and began striking the victim with the blunt end of an axe. Police say both parties left the victim injured at the residence. A short while later, the victim’s partner returned home and called 911.
On April 30, 2024, the accused attended the Peterborough County OPP detachment where they were arrested.
A 25-year-old from Selwyn, ON., was arrested and charged with:
- Assault with a weapon
- Assault Causing Bodily Harm
- Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
The accused was held for Bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.
The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
