Crews Battling Barn Fire In Downeyville-UPDATE

KAWARTHA LAKES-Fire crews from Dunsford, Omemee, Emily and OPS responded to a barn fire on St Luke’s Road in Downeyville Friday afternoon.

St Luke’s Road was closed east of Sturgeon Road to Centreline Road to enable tanker trucks to get water to the scene quickly.

Deputy Chief Matthews told Kawartha 411 News that the storage barn contained a tractor and 150 round bales of hay, all of which were burned.

“With the help of the farmer and heavy equipment, we were able to limit the spread to nearby buildings. Matthews said. “We had a good response from our volunteers, it was a good effort by everybody.”

Fire officials are working with the owner to determine the cause.

The OPP was on scene to block traffic and Kawartha Lakes paramedics were on standby if needed. No one was injured and no animals were in the barn according to Matthews.
