Impaired Driving Charges Laid After Vehicle Drives Through Backyard In Peterborough

PETERBOROUGH-A 21-year-old Cobourg man is facing impaired charges after an incident early Thursday morning.

Officers were made aware of a possible impaired driver as a vehicle had just driven through a backyard in the Park Place and Dalhousie Street area at approximately 12:40am on February 22. Upon arrival, officers learned that the vehicle had reportedly struck another vehicle before taking off.  Officers started searching the area for the vehicle and driver described to police.  It was located on Monaghan Road just south of Sherbrooke Street and officers conducted a traffic stop. No one was injured.

As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with Failure to stop after accident, Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and Operation while impaired – alcohol.

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court March 12, 2024.
