KAWARTHA LAKES-City of Kawartha Lakes OPP says officers had a busy weekend enforcing Impaired Driving Laws on our highways.
On December 9, 2023, officers were given information of a male who had been observed drinking in his vehicle, in Bobcaygeon. Officers responded to the area and conducted a traffic stop with the subject vehicle. Through investigation officers demanded the male provide a sample of breath into an Approved Screening Device. As a result, the male received a three-day licence suspension.
On December 10, 2023, officers conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle, in Bobcaygeon, where an odour of alcohol was found to be emitting from the driver according to police. The driver refused to provide a sample of his breath into an Approved Screening Device and upon further investigation the male driver was charged with:
·      Failure or Refusal to comply with demand
·      Consuming liquor in an unauthorized place
·      Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
In addition to the charges the driver received a 90-day licence suspension and the motor vehicle was also impounded for 7 days.
Furthermore, police say the vehicle had a male passenger who was on conditions not to be around the driver and was charged with:
·      Fail to comply with probation order
Both the driver and passenger are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay at a later date.
Drivers are reminded that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving.
