Police Say Vehicles Deliberately Rammed, Two Officers Injured

PETERBOROUGH-A police cruiser was deliberately rammed this evening in the area of Water Street and University Heights Boulevard in Peterborough according to police.

“An eventful start to a Sunday evening in the north end of Peterborough. Officers attempting to stop a vehicle were deliberately rammed by the driver of the fleeing vehicle,” said Chief Betts on social media.

According to Betts at least one police vehicle will likely be a write-off, while the second is questionable. Two officers sustained minor injuries while the suspect was examined for possible injuries. The driver is being investigated for impaired driving according to police.

“This is a sad reality of policing. This is the personal and financial cost of policing. This is the type of thing our officers could face at any time. Sure, it’s what they’re paid to do, but few other professions have employees who knowingly put themselves in harm’s way to keep their community safe.” said Betts

Betts says the officers will be fine but will need time to heal.

There’s no word on charges but Betts says more information will be provided on Monday.
