Peterborough County OPP Lay Numerous Impaired Driving Charges Over The Weekend

PETERBOROUGH-Peterborough County OPP officers have laid multiple charges related to impaired driving this past weekend.

Peterborough County OPP responded to traffic complaints regarding a white sedan swerving on Highway 7 in the Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Township shortly after 12:30pm on November 24. The vehicle was observed by an officer who initiated a traffic stop.

34-year-old Tyler Goddard of Brockville was arrested and charged with Operation while impaired-alcohol and Operation while impaired-alcohol – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

On November 24 officers were conducting R.I.D.E. in the Municipality of Tent Lakes at approximately 8:30pm. A vehicle entered the R.I.D.E. and after speaking with officers, the driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol according to police.

35-year-old Christopher Shaw of Trent Lakes was arrested and charged with Operation while impaired-alcohol – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available.

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days, vehicle impounded for seven days and both are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on December 19, 2023.

On November 25, 2023, shortly after 12:00pm, a Peterborough County OPP officer was on general patrol on Keene Road in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township when they observed a vehicle approaching from behind at a high rate of speed. Police say the vehicle applied its brakes nearly coming in contact with the police cruiser in front of them.

Garrett Galloway, 27-years-old of Aurora was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired-alcohol

·      Operation while impaired-alcohol – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Drive motor vehicle with liquor readily available

On November 25, 2023, just after 10:00pm, a Peterborough County OPP officer was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 115 in the Cavan-Monaghan Township area. The officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed passing multiple vehicles.

39-year-old James Murray of Peterborough was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired-alcohol

·      Operation while impaired-alcohol – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Dangerous Operation

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days and both are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on January 2, 2024.

The Peterborough County OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
