KAWARTHA LAKES-The City of Kawartha Lakes OPP charged four local residents early this morning after a traffic stop resulted in the seizure of cannabis and two loaded handguns.
Police say officers were conducting a R.I.D.E program at Highway 35 and Killarney Bay Road on November 15 shortly before 1:00 am and a vehicle was stopped which contained cannabis readily available to the driver.
Further investigation resulted in the seizure of two loaded handguns. As a result, the following people were arrested and charged:
Jeffery Vanderwal,, 24-years-old, of Lindsay:
- Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
- Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammo
- Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of Firearm knowing Serial Number has been Tampered with
- Unauthorized possession of weapon
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
Justin Alton, 21 years-old, of Fenelon Falls:
- Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammo
- Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of Firearm knowing Serial Number has been Tampered with
- Unauthorized possession of weapon
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm CC 91(1)
Victoria Violette, 19 years-old, of Norwood,
- Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammo
- Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of Firearm knowing Serial Number has been Tampered with
- Unauthorized possession of weapon
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
Makayla Kavanagh, 22 years-old, of Lindsay
- Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammo
- Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of Firearm knowing Serial Number has been Tampered with
- Unauthorized possession of weapon
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
The accused are all awaiting a bail hearing with the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay.
