PETERBOROUGH-An arrest has been made in relation to recent thefts of motor vehicles in the Peterborough area.
Peterborough County OPP received a call advising of a Break & Enter at a local dealership where a vehicle along with several keys for other vehicles were stolen On October 7. Over the course of the next two days, five vehicles were stolen from this and two other automotive businesses in the area.
On October 11, 2023, the Peterborough County OPP again received a call for service about a vehicle that left a gas station with the driver making no effort to pay for items obtained from the gas station. A description of the vehicle was provided to police which was later located after the vehicle was crashed. Upon arrival of police, two individuals were still with the vehicle however the driver had fled the scene on foot. The vehicle was determined to be one of the vehicles from the recent thefts according to police. The driver was located a short time later in close proximity to the crash.
As a result of the investigation, the following arrests were made.
25-year-old Dillan Farnell of Trent River ON., was arrested and charged with:
·      Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence – three counts
·      Fail to comply with Probation Order
·      Operation while Prohibited under the Criminal Code
·      Theft over $5,000 of a Motor Vehicle – five counts
·      Theft under $5,000 – two counts
The accused was held for Bail and was to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.
38-year-old Ashley Johnson of no fixed address was arrested and charged with:
·      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on November 21, 2023.
Molly McCue age 27 of Peterborough ON., was arrested and charged with:
·      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on November 21, 2023.
The OPP would like to remind everyone to ensure that vehicles are locked when not in use and keys kept in a safe location out of view.
